Setting Up Your Sign-Up Page and Welcome Screen

Written by Melinda Haughey

This article is about the Proxi admin app at app.proxi.co, and the experience editor released September 15, 2026. Not sure which you have? Open your experience's participation link, the one participants use. If it starts with app.proxi.co, this is the right article. If it starts with map.proxi.co, yours is a legacy experience; look for the legacy article instead.

Before anyone can check in or vote, they sign up. The Registration tab controls what that looks like: the words on the page, the questions you ask, the welcome screen people see when they scan your sign, and how they confirm it's really them.

General: The Words on the Page

Under Registration → General you'll find Heading, Description, and Button label. Templates fill these in ("Join Riverbend Restaurant Week", "Sign up to track where you have eaten and what you have earned.", "Start Dining"). Rewrite them however you like.

Sign-up Fields: What You Ask

Under Sign-up Fields, drag to reorder, toggle Required on anything you need, and add your own questions. The standard fields are:

  • Email and Phone — you need at least one so we can send the confirmation code. When only one is left, it shows Always included instead of a Remove button.

  • Display name — what shows on the leaderboard.

  • Opt-in to updates — the checkbox where people say yes to hearing from you. Removing it brings up a heads-up, because without it you don't have their permission on record for marketing emails. Keep it unless you already have another lawful reason to email them.

Click + Add question for anything else, like "How did you hear about us?" or "T-shirt size". Types are Short answer, Long answer, Dropdown, Checkbox, Number, Date, and Link. Answers land on each participant, and you can search them on the Participants page.

Welcome Screen: The First Thing They See

Under Welcome Screen, the Show a welcome screen switch adds a friendly first page before the sign-up form. Turn it off and people go straight to signing up.

  • One line about what this is — leave it blank and we write one from your setup, like "Visit 14 places around town and earn the Clean Plate Club."

  • Say more (optional) — a few lines about the event. Paste a video or web link and use the embed button to show it as a card.

  • How It Works — three short steps. By default they write themselves from your settings (the Updates itself chip shows that). Click Write my own to type your own steps, or Back to suggested to let us handle it again.

  • Button label — "Get Started", "Start the Hunt", or your own.

How Someone Actually Joins

Here's what a participant goes through, so you can explain it at the welcome table:

  1. They scan your sign or open the link and see the welcome screen. They tap the button.

  2. They fill in the sign-up form and tap your button label.

  3. They enter a 6-digit code. It's texted if they gave a phone, emailed otherwise. There's a Send a new code link if it doesn't arrive.

  4. They're in. Coming back later on the same phone just works; on a different phone they tap I've already signed up, enter their email or phone, and get a fresh code.

People you add yourself on the Participants page skip the code step.

Good to Know

  • The Joining section holds your join code and who can sign up. (See Who Can Join, and When.)

  • The Pricing section is where you charge for entry. (See Charging to Join.)

  • Preview any of this with View as participant at the top of the editor.
