Audiences: Lists That Keep Themselves Up to Date

Written by Melinda Haughey

This article is about the Proxi admin app at app.proxi.co.

An audience is a group of people you can message together. Some audiences build and refresh themselves as people interact with your maps; others you put together by hand. You'll find them under Audiences. A small badge on each one tells you which kind it is — Auto-updating or Manual list — so you always know whether it's filling on its own or waiting on you.

Auto-Updating Audiences

These fill themselves. Each one is tied to a source — a challenge, a form or collection, a program, an event group, a bulletin board, or your listings — and whenever someone new interacts, they're added automatically. Register ten people for your hunt today and tomorrow, and the hunt's audience just grows to match; you never touch it. The Source column shows where each audience comes from, with its current name, and clicking it opens that source in a new tab so you can always trace a list back to where it started.

To bring in people you've already collected, use Add from Experiences. When there are groups ready to pull in, a banner offers to Review them or Import All — a quick way to turn past sign-ups and submissions into audiences you can message.

Lists You Build Yourself

Sometimes you want a list that's just yours — a hand-picked set of people, or a spreadsheet of contacts from somewhere else. Use Create Audience:

  • Add People Manually — start an empty list and add contacts to it (for example, tick a few people on the All Contacts tab and add them in).

  • Upload a CSV — bring in a spreadsheet of names, emails, and phone numbers.

These wear the Manual list badge and only change when you change them.

The Listing Contacts Audience

Proxi keeps one ready-made, org-wide audience of everyone listed as a contact on your listings — your businesses and partners. It's there without you importing anything (as long as you have listing contacts), and it stays current as you add or remove people on listings. It's the fastest way to reach all your businesses at once.

Keep the Ones You Use Most on Top

Pin an audience and it floats to the top of the list for everyone on your team, so the lists you reach for live are always right there. Unpin to send it back to its normal spot.

Inside an Audience

Open any audience to see its people and, across the top, tabs for its Contacts, Messages (write and send), Automations (set up messages that send themselves), and Settings. The header repeats what it grows from, so you're never guessing where the list came from.

Good to Know

  • Rename a challenge, program, or event and its audience's Source updates to the new name on its own — no stale labels.

  • Whether you can message a particular audience depends on your plan; audiences built from your own forms and submissions are the most widely available.

  • Ready to write? See Sending Messages: Email or Text the People on Your Maps, and for the differences between audience types, What You Can Send from Each Kind of Audience.
