Take Donations and Sell Extras Inside an Experience

Written by Melinda Haughey

This article is about the Proxi admin app at app.proxi.co, and the experience editor released September 15, 2026. Not sure which you have? Open your experience's participation link, the one participants use. If it starts with app.proxi.co, this is the right article. If it starts with map.proxi.co, yours is a legacy experience; look for the legacy article instead.

A passport or hunt is a natural place to ask for a gift: people are out enjoying what you built, and the ask is right there on their phone. The Fundraising tab adds a Donate tab to the participant's screen where they can give what they like, buy an extra, and earn points or a badge for it. Say you run a free "Riverbend Trail Hunt" and want to cover next year's printing: you'd add a pay-what-you-want gift with a few suggested amounts, award a point per dollar, and give a "Trail Supporter" badge at $20.

Money goes to your connected payment account, the same way tickets do, so connect it first if you haven't. (See Set Up Payments: Connect Stripe and Get Paid Through Proxi.)

Setting It Up

Open the Fundraising tab in the editor. If you don't see it, switch on the Donate row under Settings → Features & Tabs.

  1. Heading — the title at the top of the Donate tab, like "Help keep the trail free".

  2. A line about where it goes — one sentence under the heading. "Every gift keeps the trail free for families." People give more when they know what it pays for.

  3. What people can buy or give — add an item. Each one is a product with a name, a price, and a short description:

    • One-time payment for something with a fixed price: a t-shirt, a premium clue pack, a sponsor-a-stop slot.

    • Donation / pay-what-you-want for a gift, with suggested amounts and an Another amount box.

Add as many as you like; each shows as its own card on the Donate tab.

  4. For each item, fill in What they get (shown on the card, e.g. "Premium AR at every zone"), Points for buying (a flat number per purchase), and Points per 1.00 given (scaled by the amount; 1 means a $20 gift is 20 points). Leave both at 0 if it shouldn't count toward the game.

  5. Header button — switch on Also show this as a button at the top of every screen and set Button says ("Donate", "Give", "Support the trail"). It's the most-seen spot in the experience, so use it when the gift is the point.

Rename the tab itself the same way as any other: Settings → Features & Tabs, pencil on the Donate row. "Give", "Fundraiser", and "Shop" are common picks.

A Badge for Giving

On the Badges tab, add a badge and set Earn when to Give $N on the Fundraising tab with an Amount ($). It counts everything they've given or bought here, so a $5 gift and a $15 t-shirt together earn a $20 badge. A Bonus points value on that badge is a nice thank-you. (See Badges, Points, and Prizes.)

What Participants See

The Donate tab shows your heading, your line, and a card per item with its description and the points it earns. Tapping Give (or Buy) opens a pay-what-you-want sheet or goes straight to checkout. Checkout opens in the browser; when they come back, the Donate tab shows their gift and their points have moved. They need to be signed in to the experience to give, so the points have somewhere to land.

Refunds and Corrections

Refund in your payment dashboard as usual. Then open Participants & Activity, click the person, and under Support purchases take the purchase off the record. The points it earned come off, and so does any badge it unlocked (and that badge's bonus points), so the leaderboard stays honest.

Good to Know

  • Items here are one-time or pay-what-you-want. For a recurring membership, use a program instead. (See Charging to Join.)

  • The Donate tab only appears once you've added at least one item and the Donate row is on. Switch the row off to pause the ask without deleting anything.

  • Copying an experience brings the heading along but not the items; add them again on the copy.

  • Gifts here are separate from a paid entry fee. You can have both: a $10 ticket to join and a Donate tab inside.
