Chamber dues, downtown association membership, BID member fees, merchant association dues — this guide sets up a Membership package that bills yearly, invites every business on your listings, and keeps the renewal dates where you can see them. The Downtown Fairhaven Association is our stand-in.
What You'll End Up With
Every dues-paying business tagged as a member, a dashboard with each one's renewal date, a way to message just your members, and a portal where a business can pay its own dues without calling you.
1. Set Up the Package
Connect payments under Settings → Payments if you haven't.
Sponsorships & Memberships → + Add → New Package. On the Templates tab pick Business Membership, name it "Downtown Business Membership", and click Use This Template. It starts you with three yearly levels you'll rename in the next step.
Add Level for each dues band, Billing Yearly: "Business" at $150, "Nonprofit" at $75, "Anchor" at $500. Under Benefits list what a member gets — Badge in the directory, Featured Placement on the downtown map, invitations to member mixers — one line each.
On the Sign-Up Page tab: Button Text "Join the Association"; Terms with what dues cover and when they renew. Save Changes.
Publish.
2. Bring In the Businesses You Already Have
Members who already paid this year by check: open each listing, pick their level, Record Offline, and put the check number in the note. They're Active from today. Everyone else: open the listing, pick the level, Send Invite. A business owner can also do it themselves — the portal shows Join the Association on their listing's page.
3. Let Renewals Run
A yearly level renews through the business's saved payment method; you don't send an invoice. The Sponsorships & Memberships overview does the watching for you: a member whose card expired shows in the Payment Due total and in Needs You, where Record Payment is one click if they'd rather pay by check. A friendly note usually fixes it either way.
Set up a renewal reminder once: Audiences → Listing Contacts, new message, Narrow To "Members in Downtown Business Membership". Because the filter is applied when the message sends, a business that joins next month is included automatically.
4. Show Members Off
Every Active member's listing carries the tag "Downtown Business Membership: Business" (or Nonprofit, or Anchor). In your directory, filter by it for a members-only view or turn on the sponsor badge in the directory's design settings; on the downtown map, feature the Anchor members. Members can see their own status, level and renewal date on their listing's page in the portal.
Beyond dues: a Membership package and a Sponsorship package live side by side. Your Anchor members are your first call for next summer's festival sponsorships — message "Members in Downtown Business Membership" and send them the festival sign-up link.
