A check-in is the moment someone proves they visited. You decide how much proof you want, from "just tap the button" to "scan the sign at the counter". Everything here lives in your places tab under Check-in Rules.
Honor System or Verified
The first switch is Verify check-ins. Off means the honor system: one tap checks someone in. On means they have to prove it using one of the methods below, and the rest of the section appears.
The Methods
Under How they check in, turn on any mix. Participants see only the ones you've switched on.
Code — each place gets a short code (four digits to start, or a word you choose). The shop reads it out or posts it, and the participant types it in. Set the codes on each place row.
QR code — people scan a printed code at each place. Print them all from Print → Check-in QR codes, or download one place's code from its row.
Location (geofence) — their phone confirms they're nearby. Set How close they need to be; 100 meters, about a block, works for most lists. Close enough that they have to be there, forgiving enough for a phone that's a little off.
Photo — they snap a photo at the place and you approve it. Add Photo Submission Instructions ("Get you and the mural in the shot") and, if you don't want to review each one, switch on Count photos right away (no review).
Receipt — they share a receipt with the total. It counts toward spend rewards once you approve it, or right away with Count receipts right away (no review). Add Receipt Submission Instructions if there's anything they should know.
A good pairing for a shopping passport: QR code for most people, Code as the fallback when a camera won't cooperate, and Receipt on if a badge depends on spending.
What Participants See
Each place in their list has a Check in button. Tapping it opens a small drawer with your methods: Scan a QR code, Use my location, Send a photo, Send a receipt, or a box to type the code. When the check-in lands, they see a stamp on that place and a note like "You're off! That's your first one." Photo and receipt check-ins that need your review show Waiting for review until you approve them.

Reviewing Photos and Receipts
Anything that needs your approval waits on the Participants & Activity page, under People, in a section called Check-ins waiting for your review. Each row shows who, where, the photo, and any amount reported. Click Approve to count the visit and award the points, or Decline.
Good to Know
The floating Check in button on a participant's phone lets them scan any sign without picking the place first.
If someone's camera or location is blocked, the app suggests typing the code or sending a photo instead, so nobody gets stuck at the counter.
