Filters and Search for Visitors

Written by Melinda Haughey

This article is about the Proxi admin app at app.proxi.co.

The whole point of a directory is that visitors can find what they're after fast. Two settings control that: search and filters.

Search (Style → Filters)

In the Filters section, switch on Search to let visitors search by name, and set a Search placeholder to fit your directory (like "Search businesses…").

Filter Chips

Still in Filters, pick which fields become filter chips at the top of the directory — like Category or Type. Choose the fields you want visitors to narrow by, and they appear as chips people can tap to filter the list. These come from your collection's fields, so set up the fields you want to filter on first (see Setting Up Categories, Fields, and Labels).

The Order Places Appear (Data → List Order)

Open List Order to control the default order:

  • Pick a Default sortName (A–Z), Name (Z–A), Featured first, Newest, or Random.

  • Want something more specific? Build a custom order by one or more of your fields — add more than one to break ties.

  • Either way, featured places always come first (you mark those with the star in the Listings section).

A quick tip: don't over-filter. Two or three well-chosen filter fields (say Category and Neighborhood) help far more than ten. Keep search on, pick the couple of filters people actually use, and the directory stays easy to browse.
