Testing Your Passport Challenge or Scavenger Hunt Before Launch

Before your passport, guide, or scavenger hunt opens to everyone, it's worth playing through it yourself — registering, opening your personal link, and checking in at a location or two. The way to do that is to make yourself a tester. Testers can explore and check in even while the experience is switched off, before its start date, or after it ends.

Step 1: Register Yourself as a Participant

A tester is just a participant with special access, so first you need a participant record with your email:

  1. Open your experience and go to Participants & Activity, then the Participants tab.

  2. Click Add Participant and enter your email (a display name is optional).

  3. After saving, you'll see your Participant link — copy it. This personal link is how you'll play; we also send it in a welcome email.

You can also register through the registration page like a real participant would — that's a good way to test the sign-up experience itself.

Step 2: Make Yourself a Tester

  1. Click your row in the Participants list to open your details.

  2. Click Make Tester. A Tester badge appears on your row so you can always tell testers apart from real participants.

You can add teammates the same way — register them, then mark them as testers. To take tester access away later, open their details and click Remove Tester.

Step 3: Play Through It

Open your participant link. You'll see a Testing Mode banner at the top letting you know you can explore and check in before things open to everyone — and that your check-ins count toward your progress, so you can verify points, awards, and completion work the way you expect.

As a tester you can:

  • Play while the experience is still switched off or scheduled for a future start date.

  • Keep playing after the end date.

  • Skip the payment step, if your experience charges to participate.

One thing testing mode does not skip: check-in verification. If a location requires being nearby, scanning a QR code, entering a code, or taking a photo, testers go through that too. To test check-ins from your desk, either use the codes directly or temporarily ease the location's verification settings while you test.

Before You Launch

Tester activity is real activity — it shows up in your stats and on the leaderboard. A quick cleanup before opening day keeps things tidy:

  • Reset your progress. Open your participant details and click Reset Progress. This permanently clears your check-ins, activities, and points — it can't be undone, which is exactly what you want before launch. Do this for every tester.

  • Hide testers from the leaderboard. If a tester will keep playing after launch, click Hide from Board in their details so they don't compete with real participants.

  • Changed the setup mid-testing? If you added locations or adjusted points while testing, Recalculate Points in the participant details re-scores everything against the current setup.

A couple of small tips: always use your participant link with the same email — progress is tied to it. And if you ever lose the link, open your participant details and click Resend Link.
