Every map, directory, and form you make gets a link automatically — but out of the box it's a long string of letters and numbers. A Web Address lets you swap that for something people can actually read, remember, and print: /m/holiday-lights-trail instead of /m/64f1a2b3c4d5... It's optional — everything works fine without one — but it makes a real difference on posters, in newsletters, and anywhere someone might type the link by hand.
Where to Set One
Look for the Web Address field:
Maps — open the map in the editor and go to the Sharing section.
Directories — open the directory in the editor and go to the Sharing section.
Signup forms — open the form and look under Share & Embed.
Other forms (like a submission form on a collection) — open the form editor; the field sits with the form's wording.
Programs — these get an address automatically when you create one, built from the program's name. You can change it any time on the Setup tab.
How It Works
The field shows your full address as you type — your own domain if you've set one up, otherwise the standard Proxi address — so you can see exactly what people will visit. When it looks right, click Apply. Nothing changes until you do, so feel free to try things out in the box first.
We tidy up whatever you type: capital letters become lowercase, and spaces become dashes. "Holiday Lights Trail" becomes holiday-lights-trail — the preview under the field shows you before you apply.
Changing an Address Later
Renames are safe: the old address keeps working and quietly sends people to the new one, so a QR code you printed last month or a link in an old newsletter never breaks. Old addresses show up under Old addresses that still work, each with a remove button if you're sure nothing points there anymore.
The Ground Rules
At least 4 characters. Short-and-cryptic defeats the purpose anyway.
Letters, numbers, and dashes. We clean up everything else for you.
First come, first served. Each address is unique across all of Proxi (maps have their own space, directories theirs, and so on). If yours is taken, adding your town or year usually does it — riverbend-holiday-lights.
Limited changes per map, directory, or form. If you hit the limit, message us and we'll help with the next one. This keeps popular addresses from being collected and parked.
Your original link keeps working forever. The long-form link never stops resolving, and embeds or QR codes built with it don't need to be touched.
Good to Know

Share buttons, embed codes, and printable QR codes around the app automatically use your web address once you've set one.
Search engines and link previews treat the web address as the one true link for the page, which keeps your sharing tidy in one place.
