Designing Your Map: Branding, Style, and Starting View

This SOP explains how to update the branding settings for a Proxi map, including the header, brand colors, logo, cover image, and custom font. Configure the map style, 3D globe view, starting/default view, and embedded zoom behavior.

This article is about the Proxi admin app at app.proxi.co.

Everything below lives in the map editor. Open your map from the Maps page, and use the settings rail on the left — there's a search box at the top of the rail if you can't find a setting. The preview on the right is your real live map, so every change shows instantly, and everything saves automatically.

Branding: Title, Colors, Logo, and Font

  • Open the map you would like to edit.

  • Click on the Branding section on the left side panel under map style.

Edit the map Header

  • Click on the Header to expand:

    • Edit your map's Title and Subtitle

    • Use the Header size slider for how big the logo and title appear on the map.

    • Toggle on the Hide header option to remove the title bar at the top of the map for a clean, full-screen look.

Edit the Brand Colors

  • Click on Brand colors to expand:

    • Edit the Primary color (header background and accents), Text color, Featured color, and Cluster accent.

    • Leave any blank to inherit your workspace colors. We'll warn you if your text and background colors are hard to read together.

    • Select colors that match your organization's brand guidelines.

Edit the Logo + cover image

  • Click on the Logo + cover image to expand:

    • The logo shows in the map header. Upload a photo or paste a URL to change the default logo.

    • Add a logo link, so when visitors tap on the logo they open the link in a new tab. Leave empty to keep the logo unclickable.

    • The cover image is used in link previews if you haven't set a share image. Upload a photo or paste a URL to set the cover image.

Choose a custom font

  • Click on the Custom font to expand:

    • Pick from the font list or inherit your workspace font.

Choosing a Map Style

  • Open Display → Map style

  • Click a style tile — Standard, Satellite, Paper, Watercolor, Night, and many more.

Enable 3D Globe View

  • Open Display → Map style

  • Toggle on the 3D globe switch if you want the map to render as a globe instead of flat.

  • Confirm the globe view works as expected by zooming out and checking the visual effect.

  • Use this option when you want to create a more interactive and exploratory map experience.

Set Your Map's Default View

The starting/default view is what visitors see the moment your map opens.

  • In Display → Default view:

    • Pan, zoom, rotate, or tilt the live preview until it looks right (there are Rotation and Tilt sliders too).

      • Set a rotation if you want the map to open facing a specific direction.

      • Set a tilt if you want the map to open at an angled perspective.

    • Click Set current view as default. That's it — the panel shows your saved center and zoom.

    • Stop visitors zooming out too far — toggle on to keep the map on your area

    • Stop visitors zooming in too close — toggle on to keep visitors from zooming in too close to places on the map. This is useful when places are approximate.

Two shortcuts: Fit to all places frames every pin automatically, and whenever you wander in the preview, a Save as new default view pill appears right on the map.

Show the Point List

  • Click on Display on the left side panel of your map editor.

  • Show point list — adds a browsable list alongside the map (with an option to open it automatically when the map loads).

    • When off visitors don't see the full list — tapping a marker on the map only opens that single point's card.

Configure the Branding Badge

  • Click Display under map style

  • Scroll down to Branding Badge and click to expand

    • Hide "Built with Proxi" — removes our badge from your map (available on Pro).

    • Zoom on scroll when embedded — Visitors zoom your embedded map when their scroll wheel.

      • Turn this off if you'd rather scrolling past the map move the map instead.

      • If this setting is off, users must use the plus and minus zoom buttons in the bottom-right corner instead.

Shapes and Image Overlays

The Shapes & Overlays section lets you decorate the map itself:

  • Shapes — draw polygons, lines, circles, and rectangles right on the preview (a parade route, a district boundary, a festival footprint).

    • Each shape can be styled, renamed, duplicated, or even promoted into a place.

    • Import custom shapes by pasting or choosing your own file.

  • Image overlays — upload an image and anchor it to a real-world spot, then drag the handles to move, scale, and rotate it. Great for hand-drawn maps and event site plans.

Want visitors to be able to switch these on and off? In Filters → Layer filters, turn on Show layer filter to add a Layers dropdown to the map.

Cautionary Notes

  • Make sure all branding choices follow your organization’s approved brand standards.

  • Verify that uploaded images are clear and properly sized before saving.

  • Remember that the cover image is used as the link preview image only when no share image is configured in other settings.

  • Test the header size and font choice for readability on different screen sizes.

  • If a preferred map background is not available, request assistance ([email protected]) rather than forcing an unsuitable style.

Tips for Efficiency

  • Prepare your logo, cover image, and brand color values before opening Proxi.

  • Use the header size toggle to quickly compare layout options.

  • Keep a copy of your brand guidelines nearby to speed up color and font selection.

  • Save changes after completing all branding updates to avoid losing work.
